Our On the Same Page 2007 program will conclude with a play adapted and performed by our own young patrons on Saturday June 2nd, 2007 from 11 AM to 12 noon. A group of 6 children has been working hard since mid-April on this production, and so have their parents. Not only are the children learning lines, but they are also making the scenery and props. Parents are also helping to gather props as well as to fabricate tents, cabins and donkeys.
From Slave to Soldier is about a slave boy who ran away and joined the Union Army as a mule driver. Lee Drescher of Treasure Time productions and The Treasure Time Story Book Theatre has been hired to create this production. Ms. Drescher is a past teacher and school librarian. The children in this play range in age from 6 to 12. They are from Sunderland, Hatfield and surrounding towns. The lead role of Johnny will be played by Elihu Jones. Ben, an important soldier, will be played by Max Pellerin. Dave, the mule team and chuck wagon driver, will be played by Zachary Lee. The captain will be Michael Imm. Double roles will be played by Olivia McCulloch and Ella Deane. They will be Aunt Sadie and Uncle Silas as well as soldiers.
Refreshments will be provided by the Friends of the Sunderland Public Library.
