Carpet Replacement

The library will be closed Wednesday, January 10th through Tuesday, January 23rd while we have the carpets replaced in the main library and staff area.

The library building and collection will not be available during this time. We look forward to seeing you again on Wednesday, January 24th when we reopen.

You can still use the library! Here’s how:

FAQs:

  • What is the last day I can visit Sunderland Public Library before the temporary closure? Tuesday, January 9th from 1:00 pm – 8:00 pm.
  • When will the library reopen? Wednesday, January 24th at 1:00 pm.
  • Can I return books and other materials to Sunderland Public Library during the closure? No. Our book drop will be locked as staff will not be able to check in items. Please return your items to another CW MARS library.
  • Why are you replacing the carpets? Our carpets are 19 years old and are starting to show their age. There are parts that are frayed and others that buckle under humid conditions causing a tripping hazard. The Library worked closely with Sunderland’s Capital Planning Committee to determine the best time to undertake this project with the least impact on our taxpayers.
  • What are you replacing the carpets with? We will be replacing the carpets with carpet tiles. We have successfully replaced our old broadloom carpets in the Community Room and Children’s Room with carpet tiles, which are more durable and easy to replace in the future without closing the library. The old carpet will be recycled and turned into new carpeting.
  • Why are you closed for so long? Library staff and volunteers will be moving a large portion of our collection, and professional movers will be moving large furniture. This will take several days. The carpet replacement itself will take five days. Then library staff, volunteers, and movers need to put everything back.
