FAQ

How do I get a library card?

Your library card comes free of charge. Adults must have a picture ID that lists their current address, or a picture ID and proof of current address (such as a piece of mail). Children under the age of 14 must have a parent or guardian sign the registration form.

How long can I keep my books?

DVDs, videos and magazines circulate for 7 days. All other Sunderland Public Library materials circulate for 21 days. The loan period for items received via Interlibrary Loan is determined by the owning library.

What are your overdue fines?

The Sunderland Public Library does not charge overdue fines, but patrons are welcome to make a donation to the library. However, patrons must adhere to the borrowing policies of other libraries for materials received through Interlibrary Loan, and may be charged overdue fees by other libraries.

Borrowing privileges are suspended when a patron’s account accumulates over $10 in fines (from all libraries in the system). Patrons are also blocked from borrowing when there are billed items on the account or when there are more than 50 items checked out.

What if I lose my book?

If a patron loses an item, a replacement fee is charged according to the Replacement Fee Schedule. Replacement copies are also accepted.

Can I renew materials?

Most items can be renewed once. Renewals can be done in person, over the phone or online from our catalog at your convenience.

Do you have a photocopier available for public use?

There is a copier available in the library’s Copy Center. The cost is $0.20 per page.  Double-sided copies are $0.30 each.

Do you have a fax machine available for public use?

Can I print documents from a computer?
